Overview

Over four decades, SBM's portfolio had grown into dozens of products, solutions, services and industry offerings — far outgrowing the website that was meant to present them. We were brought in to rebuild that website from the ground up: a single, coherent digital front door that could hold the full weight of the company's offering without collapsing under its own complexity.

Team, role & numbers

Team — A small in-house team of a product owner and two UX/UI designers working side by side throughout the project. Role — UX/UI Design, Information Architecture, Design System, Prototyping. Work was split loosely rather than by strict lane: most flows and screens were designed in parallel by both designers, with a natural focus emerging later in the project — I concentrated on building out the design system while my colleague led the finalization of UI polish across the product. In numbers — ~50 unique screens across 8+ major site sections, several months of design work, from initial structure to a launch-ready UI kit.

The challenge

SBM's existing website had become a bottleneck rather than a showcase. Its information architecture hadn't kept pace with the business: dozens of products, solutions and services were scattered across pages with no consistent hierarchy, making it hard for visitors — enterprise buyers, partners, job seekers, journalists — to find what they came for. On top of that, the visual language felt dated next to a brand competing for trust in the enterprise IT and government sectors. The brief combined three problems in one redesign: fix a navigation and content structure that no longer scaled, refresh the visual identity to match the credibility of an IBM-affiliated enterprise brand, and do both without disrupting the breadth of what SBM actually offers.

Define and Research

Discovery & information architecture

Before any screen design started, the real work was mapping what SBM actually is. We audited the existing site and the company's full offering and grouped it into a clear taxonomy. Turning that sprawl into a navigable structure — one mega-menu, one set of templates, one visual system — was the project's central design problem, more than any single screen.

Project goals

Simplify navigation across an unusually large content base, so a first-time visitor can reach any product, solution or industry page in a couple of clicks. Design a scalable information architecture that can absorb new products and solutions without needing a new page pattern each time. Refresh the visual identity to read as a modern, trustworthy enterprise technology brand rather than a legacy corporate site. Build a reusable design system so that the large number of near-duplicate page types (single industry, single solution, single resource, single product) share consistent components instead of being designed from scratch. Support the full range of audiences the site actually serves — enterprise buyers, industry-specific decision makers, job applicants and press — with dedicated, purpose-built sections.

Solutions

Homepage

A hero-led landing page structured around trust signals first: a headline statement, a "since 1981" credibility block with key figures, then a guided path into products, solutions and consultancy services. The layout front-loads scannability for a visitor who doesn't yet know SBM's full offering.

Products, Solutions & Services hub

A tabbed, filterable structure that lets a single page host a wide catalogue (Digital Infrastructure, Data & AI, and the rest) without forcing every item onto the homepage. Each category follows the same card pattern, so the system reads as one product rather than a patchwork.

Industries

Dedicated landing pages per sector (Financial Services & Insurance, Telecommunications, Energy, Defence & Security, Public Sector, Sports & Entertainment), each following a shared template but built to let sector-specific messaging and case evidence stand out.

Consultancy & Techxagon

Distinct sections for SBM's advisory and innovation offerings, positioned separately from the core product catalogue so they read as strategic services rather than another item in the list.

Resources hub

A single content system covering blog, news, press releases, reports, events, awards, success stories, case studies and video — unified under one template family instead of the ad hoc page types the old site had accumulated over the years.

Career Center

A self-contained flow covering company culture, values, open positions and a full application journey (submit résumé — empty, filled and confirmed states), designed to make SBM's employer brand as considered as its client-facing pages.

Design system

The connective layer behind all of the above: a shared component library, typography and color system, and interaction patterns, built so that new pages could be assembled consistently as the site — and SBM's offering — continues to grow.

Conclutions

The redesign turned a fragmented, hard-to-navigate corporate site into a single coherent system capable of representing a four-decade-old enterprise with a genuinely large and still-growing portfolio. The design is complete and the component system is ready to carry the site into development. The next step is implementation — turning this design system into the live site that will become SBM's actual front door for enterprise clients, partners and talent across the Kingdom.
